For those who asked we didn't end up doing the First Date and Old Married Couple menus although we agreed it would be a fun idea for next year.
Part of being a mom and pop operation (at least for us) is leaving enough lead time to actually promote the events. It's hard to sit down and schedule for the year when you're dealing with a broken refrigerator, an obnoxious landlord, changing the wine list, chasing vendors looking for product or any of the other daily crises. Of course, I'd have more time if I wasn't blogging.
Also, I'm more a seat of the pants, last minute deadline kind of guy. The GM is the opposite. In 10 years of marriage though we seems to have swapped a bit in that strange married way. Now I'm the one who more often is saying let's talk about.... whatever and she's saying that's months away, what are you crazy?
Our Valentine's Specials were an Asparagus Salad with Black Olive Vinaigrette, Filet Mignon with Cheddar-Potato Cake and Red Wine-Peppercorn Sauce, and Pan Roasted Wild Steelhead with Sauteed Spinach and Rock Shrimp Fritters.
The customers ended up being mostly locals. Well behaved, considerate regulars with a smattering of people we know but don't see often.
